When I think of Mexican food, what comes to mind is fiery flavours, homestyle portions and colourful concoctions. Basically everything you could ever want for a pleasing palette and visual la comida experience.
Dive into the culture and fun this Cinco De Mayo with these following foodie spots that’ll leave a tingle on your tongue!
Alimentaria Mexicana
A restaurant under the umbrella of culinary big shot, Ernesto Gomez (also the founder of Chancho Tortilleria), Alimentaria Mexicana cannot be missed on Granville Island with its vibrant design and straw-covered patio.
The menu carefully curated by Martín Vargas is like a la fiesta on a plate. Tinted crispy tortillas, meaty mains; Beef Cheeks In Dried Mexican Chillies and 8-hour braised Lamb Shank Barbacoa and cheerful bebidas (drinks), Niña Piña and Mezcalita amongst the many cocktail options.

Primos Mexican Grill
A third-generation owned restaurant since 1959, Primos prides itself on tradition with a tequila bar, tapas and main dishes that change daily based on the chef’s specials. They even have refill growlers to-go for their staple salsa and hot sauce!

Ole Ole Mexican Deli
An absolutely dynamite hole-in-the-wall, Ole Ole is authentic through and through. From the charming, eclectic decor to the owner himself, Raul Senties, the Salvatorian-style food doesn’t disappoint. No wonder they’re voted “The Best Mexican Food” by New West’s local paper, The Record!
I tried the Chile Relleno, a stuffed chilli pepper served with rice and beans and the Pollo Crema, chicken with cream pepper sauce, alongside mixed vegetables and rice. Simply exquisito.

Adelicia’s Mexican Restaurante & Bar
Adelicia’s is all about shareables and generous dishes. If you want Piña Coladas, Nachos Grandes and Tamales, this here’s your stop. And bring your friends, because this is the perfect place to while away the evening amongst a backdrop that looks like a Mexican beach hut.

Transit: King George is your SkyTrain station stop, then hop on either the 364 getting off at Langley Centre or the 342, getting off at 203 St @ Fraser Hwy.
Edalil on the Road
Edalil brings himself and the family on the road for a food truck that uses local products for Mexican hand-helds that are just as yummy as they sound: Alambres, consisting of bell peppers, grilled red onions, tomatoes and cheese with chorizo, chicken or veggie tacos, also available in warmed baguettes or as hotdogs.
Often in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Burnaby and Port Moody. As the name suggests, Edalil is on the Road with his food truck so keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook to follow where he and the team will be on Cinco De Mayo!
