Patio Season: Coquitlam and Burnaby - West Coast Food

It’s time for summer patios in Coquitlam and Burnaby!

With summer officially open for business, we naturally start to crave the outdoors. We also might start craving burgers. Or craft brews. Or anything –  just let us have it under big open skies.

When the pang hits, here are some of the best patios to hit up this summer in Coquitlam and Burnaby.

Coquitlam

Something about golf courses, it seems. They just know how to do it outside. Built into the mountainside high above Coquitlam for spectacular and ultra-long-distance views, Fairways at Westwood Plateau offers a diverse menu for lunch, dinner and brunch on weekends and holidays. Even if you had a terrible day on the links, favourites like the Canadian elk burger and extensive pizza menu will make things right.

The only thing better than dining outside is dining outside with your dog. Mariner Brewing knows this, and both their frontside patio and backyard oasis welcome your four-legged friend to sit like a good boy while you sip their delightfully experimental beers and nosh the perfect ride-alongs, from nachos and wings to crispy chicken tacos and perogy dogs. Even more to love? Trivia on Tuesdays and live music Wednesdays.

John B Pub

No list of Coquitlam patios would be complete without the big daddy of them all, Mr. John B. A stalwart of the Tri-City dining scene since 1978, this beloved neighbourhood pub boasts the largest back bar in BC (over 465 different spirits) and an impressive number of taps (86), if you’re into that sort of thing. Enjoy any one of them on their spacious green-leafed patio alongside all your pub food favourites.

In the heart of the Grand Villa Casino is a sure-fire bet for a good time on any given sunny day. You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d been whisked away to some LA rooftop with it’s mostly all-white decor and mid-table fireplaces, along with the occasional palm trees scattered about in between. If there was a drink made for this vibe specifically it’s rosé, and right now you can “make it a rosé day” with their Yes Way Rosé features including specially crafted cocktails and paired seasonal rice bowls.

When you want to feel like lunch is a vacation, check into the patio at Acqua Restaurant and Bar at the Executive Suites Hotel. Its location poolside will put you right in the mind of that resort life. Plenty of green trees keeps the bustle of the city at bay as you sip on signature cocktails like the Brentwood Lemonade and the tropical Acqua Sapphire. And a $9 menu of snacks at Happy Hour (4 – 6 p.m.) is a nice little upgrade to your stay.

Hart House Restaurant

Less a “patio” and more a “sprawling English manor lawn that overlooks a charming lake,” al fresco at the Hart House Restaurant at Deer Lake will immediately transport you to a different place and time. The Hart House itself is a beautiful Tudor-style estate built at the turn of the 20th century and was world-renowned for its gardens the legacy of which can still be felt today at tables out on the grass as it slopes towards the water. Ideal for a Sunday brunch in your Sunday finest, which goes weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
