As we continue our tour of the best patios on the West Coast, we land in Richmond where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean meets epic views all around.

Situated on a land bar in the Fraser River, Milltown boasts not one but two amazing waterside views to sit by and enjoy plates of West Coast pub favourites and one or two of their signature cocktails. On the north side, you’ll take in the majesty of the Coastal Mountains, the backdrop to the new and bustling Milltown Marina. Southside, you’re right next to the river with the main YVR Airport runway in the background. So pick your poison: boats or planes?

On the busy Bayview Pier in the iconic Steveston Village, Blue Canoe serves up fresh local-as-it-can-get seafood on their patio right along the boardwalk. All of their dishes are complemented by produce, also direct from local farms as much as possible. Stay for an incredible sunset view as you watch the boats come in and go out from Fisherman’s Wharf. Stay long enough, you might even see your dinner come in.

Movin’ on up, we come to the rooftop patio of Catch Kitchen + Bar with its 270-degree view of the inlet of the Fraser River and Steveston’s harbour. (Even if you don’t snag a coveted spot outside, the many windows and vantage point of the building offers incredible views almost anywhere you sit.) A great place to start your day is with their weekend brunch where you can sit and point at all the places you want to hit next.

If looking at all that open water is a bit much, you can head on over to Harold’s Kitchen & Bar in the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner you can sit poolside among their garden patio’s lush greenery and pretend that little respite from your day is a full-blown summer vacation. ‘Cause you know any restaurant named after a regular will know how to make you feel special.

No list of al fresco options in Richmond is complete without a mention of the legendary Pajo’s, and their original location floating in the water just off the Fisherman’s Wharf in Steveston. Come hungry for the world-famous fish n’ chips and even if you can’t find a spot under one of their bright yellow umbrellas, you can take your “newspaper” wrapped delight anywhere out on the surrounding boardwalk and make your very own patio seating.
