Vancouver is well into the holiday spirit at this point, with trees across the city lit, and the smell of freshly baked, cinnamon-dusted treats of all kinds wafting from local cafes and bakeries. It’s a lot for the senses to take in at once (especially if your heart hasn’t grown three sizes just yet), so we suggest starting at one of the city’s premier destinations for eating, drinking, AND being merry.
While you might first picture Granville Island on a pristine summer’s day, the winter season reveals a fresh and brisk side that you might not be familiar with…it also happens to be one of the ultimate food destinations in the country. So hop on a ferry taxi and ride across waters twinkling with reflecting lights, it’s time to start your holiday feasting a bit early this year!
Stuart’s Bakery
Well known for their large array of fresh pastries, cakes, and desserts… during the holiday season, Stuart’s ups the edible ante even further! With snowman cookies, fruit cake, shortbread, and even full gingerbread houses added to their menu, you’ll never be in short supply for tasty ways to get into the spirit.
Holiday recommendation: An assorted box of snowballs and rumballs

Oyama Sausage Co.
One of the most popular vendors in the market (and for good reason!), if you’re looking to treat your holiday guests with an outstanding charcuterie board, this is the place to do it. Creating their own fresh sausages, pates, cured salamis and hams, Oyama caters to the refined tastes of a dedicated foodie fanbase. Be sure to stop by if you’re considering an hor d’oeuvres plate for your guests this year!
Holiday Recommendation: Grelots, handmade salami with perfectly roasted hazelnuts

The Dockside Restaurant
For a pre-holiday brunch date, a round of drinks to toast to the new year, or a beautiful space to host your yearly work gathering, Dockside has you covered for all seasonal happenings. The dining room has fantastic views of the water, so you can sit and savour a few craft cocktails as you watch the decorated water taxis go by.
Holiday Recommendation: Chai Spiced Old Fashion or Liquid Apple Pie Cocktails

A La Mode
While cakes certainly have their place throughout the year, when December rolls around, it’s all about PIE. And for our money, there’s no better place for a generous slice than A La Mode. Serving sweet and savory gourmet pies since 1986, this cozy kiosk will take good care of you if you’re leaning toward outsourcing desserts this year.
Holiday Recommendation: Pinwheel Pistachio Raspberry Apple Pie

A Bread Affair Organic Bakery
Thinking of serving a nice brunch after presents? Nothing spruces up an AM meal like a bit of high-quality bread. As Vancouver’s first 100% organic bakery, Bread Affair has been nourishing area foodies with artisanal loaves and baked goods since 2005. See for yourself the difference that a loaf of True Love (organic marquis heritage wheat loaf) will make to your French toast recipe!
Holiday Recommendation: Chocolate Loaf

Granville Island Tea Co.
With a wide range of excellent tea options, elegantly wrapped, this is a fantastic spot if you’re in search of flavourful stocking stuffers. For anyone who enjoys taking mornings slowly, a nice chai or rooibos will go a long way.
Holiday Recommendation: Candy Cane Black Tea or Truffle Macadamia, Hazelnut Vanilla

My Island Cafe
Nestled at the foot of the Island entrance, this quaint little coffee spot has a great view of the duck pond and the nearby playground. Take a wander through their specialty coffee list and find something suitably cozy to sip while you take a break from the holiday bustle. We suggest the hojicha hot chocolate or the Kyoto fog!
Holiday Recommendation: Peppermint Mocha

Track Bistro
Slightly off the beaten path, and down Railspur Alley, “Off the Tracks” is the perfect name for this Island hidden gem. Using organic and sustainable ingredients to create all their menu items, there’s a real sense of community here. Add a stellar list of holiday drinks to warm you up, and you’ve found a great spot to tinker with your gift list, safely away from prying eyes.
Holiday Recommendation: Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Granville Island Brewing
If it’s been a particularly stressful day of braving the crowds and the weather, maybe a freshly poured pint is the answer. The warm and friendly taproom is an excellent option for bringing the feeling back to your face, especially when you pair it with a toasted beer cheese pretzel, and their delectable Cypress Honey Lager.
Holiday Recommendation: Lions Winter Ale
