Take it From the Pros: The Recommended Dishes at 6 Local Restaurants - West Coast Food

We’ve all been there. A menu has so many enticing items that you’re at a complete loss for what to order. It’s a psychological stalemate that began when the first recorded restaurants started offering two different types of gruel. Fast forward to today with tasting menus, nightly specials, and ordering à la carte, and you’re not in much better shape than those Cro-Magnon diners that came before you. Some people will tell you, just check the menu before you go!

However, we have an option that will go one step further. We asked a handful of Metro Vancouver restaurants what the favourite/most popular/famous dish on their menu was, and we’ve dropped each pick below. You can now enter each eatery with confidence, take your seat, and set the menu aside. You know what you want, and in a world of seemingly endless promising options, that is a very good place to be!

Now, let’s get started!

Loam Bistro | Vancouver’s North Shore

Restaurant favourite: Tiramisu French Toast

Espresso-soaked brioche, mascarpone cream, cocoa powder, espresso anglaise… this is an unparalleled exercise in decadence! While we usually say everything in moderation, when it comes to brunch, sometimes maximalism is the best approach.

Chada Thai | Coquitlam

Restaurant favourite: Khao Soi

It’s definitely a year-round favourite, but through a long winter, this might just give you the strength to face a particularly treacherous forecast. Northern Thai-style egg noodles in a savoury and spiced-to-perfection curry soup topped with crunchy noodles, fresh lime, pickled mustard, red onion, and cilantro. This is a must-order for the days when you need to reset your internal temperature.

Adelicia’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar | Langley City

Restaurant Favourite: Birria Tacos

Birria on any menu is usually a solid bet, but these braised beef, cheesy tacos are on another level. Marinated in a rich adobo sauce, it’s the perfect marriage of spice and umami flavour. Pair with an icy cold cerveza, and you’re officially having a superb night.

El Camino’s | Vancouver

Restaurant favourite: Pipian Verde Enchiladas

Another destination for outstanding Mexican fare, this Main Street locale has been satisfying spice seekers since opening in 2011. The menu is stacked with fantastic items, but this three corn tortilla dish definitely takes the taco. Served with chicken, mole verde, hola santa sauce, red onions, and Cotija cheese, you can taste the rich flavour of Chef Argelia Diaz Cabral’s Oaxacan heritage.

75 West Coast Grill | Richmond

Restaurant favourite: Braised Short Rib

Upscale comfort food at its finest, this sumptuous cut is a Sunday feast any day of the week. Rounded out by garlic mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, onion crisp and red wine jus. It’s no wonder it’s a favourite among customers and staff alike (this is the go-to order of Manager, Jason Chao).

MeetRice Noodle | Burnaby

Restaurant favourite: Fish Maw Chicken Rice Noodle

If you’re ready to level up your noodle game, this is one of the top-tier bowls at a Burnaby hot spot known for their specialty rice noodles. A savoury medley of flavours between the meat and fresh veggies, you’ll quickly realize why this is a crowd pleaser at one of Burnaby’s most foodie-featured restaurants.
