3 Vancouver Pop-Up Patios You Don't Want To Miss This Summer - West Coast Food

By Avneet Takhar

We’ve been lucky to have an abundance of patios to choose from this summer, with restaurants adapting to COVID restrictions. Seeing as a seat in the sunshine only adds to a culinary experience, these are our top 3 spots to check out while the weather’s still blazing.

Cold Tea Restaurant

Cold Tea is the Chinese-Vietnamese fusion new kid on the Granville Street block. Their 40-seat patio at the back of the restaurant is made extra cozy with candle lanterns, heaters, and potted plants dotted around. Plus, the high-top tables are perfect for small groups or a special date!

Their all-day dim sum has become a neighbourhood hit, particularly the BBQ pork buns – a must-try.

To get there: Grab the Canada Line to Yaletown-Roundhouse station. Head upwards to Mainland Street, then walk up Davie for 7 minutes until you hit 1193 Granville Street. Then you’re there!

With a Mexican-inspired menu and open-air concept, Chupito is a welcome addition to the Vancouver food scene. Authentic tapas, spicy cocktails, and seasonal pop-up menu featuring Paella Guys, this is a pinnacle summer spot. They offer welcome cocktail samples upon arrival, and the servers deliver them effortlessly across the gravel patio (extra tips for the balance and coordination in getting the goods to ya!).

There are intimate, candlelit tables along a communal bench in the centre of the space, and they even have a margarita truck!

To get there: Get the Expo or Canada line to Waterfront station. Head towards Seymour Street, and turn right on Homer. Turn left onto West Hastings Street, and enter through the back alley behind La Taqueria at 322 West Hastings.

Top Rope Birria X Bird and Beets

Taco Tuesday is the real deal with this special pop-up patio collaboration between Top Rope Birria at Bird and Beets. Happening exclusively on Tuesdays throughout the summer, the mouth-watering selection of meat and veggie quesa birrias, crunchy nachos and churro cruller sweet treats truly hit the spot!

The 50-seater licensed margarita and taco bar opens from 5 – 9/10 pm.

To get there: Hop on the number 3 bus, and get off at W Hastings and Carrall St, taking a left at Carrall until reaching 54 Alexander Street. The location is just behind Bird and Beets.
