With the help of your force insight, you may have foreseen that a very special day is fast approaching. The annual day celebrating Star Wars fandom/culture/lore is almost here, and with it, plenty of ways to show your fellow rebel fighters that you could bullseye a wamp rat with the best of em’ back home!  *Disclaimer!  The writer of this piece is cool.

While you might not first associate dining out with a salute to the trilogy of trilogies, there are definitely (maybe) a few local eateries you can try that come close! We might not have a cantina that attracts the galaxy’s scum and villainy, or a floating sail barge where you can get a drink while watching people chucked into a sand pit, but within the realm of interpretation, you’ll find the force in places you might not expect.

It’s like Chewie always used to say… ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHLLLLL!

Stevens Langley — Langley City

A corner bar in Old Langley, this little spot has the rugged coziness of a smuggler’s compartment on the Millenium Falcon, with the neon-tinged atmosphere of after-hours Curoscant. Under the soft glow of the coloured lights, you’ll find the perfect vibe to discuss your next move and how to escape the numerous bounties that the Empire has on your head.

Happy Lamb Hot Pot — Coquitlam

With robot waiters dropping off your savoury hot pot bowls, it’s almost as if R2 invited you to his part-time job to hang out until he gets off work. The renowned Mongolian restaurant takes an impressive (most impressive) amount of pride in offering patrons fresh premium ingredients, and rich umami broths that would warm the heart of a Tauntaun.

The Rec Room — Brentwood Burnaby

Much like Canto Bight before it, the Rec Room is a vibrant destination of gaming and excess. Sit at the bar searching for your next mark, or hit the VR circuit and test your force reflexes. Just remember that old motto of good sportsmanship: always let the Wookie win.

Japadog — Brentwood Burnaby

It’s no secret…Lightsabres look vaguely like hot dogs. To make this entry work you’re going to have to focus. Close your eyes and be one with the force. Feel it flow through you. An avocado Japadog, much like Luke’s lightsabre in ROTJ, is green. This represents the light side.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the menu, you have the spicy Japadog, which is red—exactly like Darth Vader’s sabre. Search your feelings, you know it to be true. You must choose ONE and only one. But if you speak to the manager, it’s probably cool if you order both.

Tojos Sushi Restaurant — Vancouver

Ok, this one is a bit more literal. Hayden Christensen dined here. But was he ordering as a Jedi or a Sith?? After a relaxing day of lounging on the magma beaches of Mustafar, there’s nothing that hits the spot like a nice sushi meal. Hopefully, they didn’t give him too much wasabi.

Tap and Barrel Shipyards — Vancouver’s North Shore

When you’re exploring the North Shore waterfront on an overcast day, there’s a subtle atmosphere that gives it a slight Dagobah vibe. Thankfully you can seek shelter in the warm hut of Tap and Barrel, where you can get out of the rain and wait for Yoda to lift your ship out of the water (the McBarge). We recommend sipping the Purple Reign to pass the time, a semi sweet taste and a violet hue as deep as the blade of Mace Windu.

L’otus Cake Boutique — Richmond

If you squint, this Matcha Yuzu Lava Shortcake kind of looks like Yoda. On the off chance you’ve ever had a force vision about eating your 800-year-old jedi master, then we suggest you immediately go straight to the Jedi council and share your premonition with that one guy who’s head looks like a radish. He will no doubt send you to L’otus Cake Boutique in Richmond to order this and then never face the dark side again.

And now, young padewan, your training is complete. Venture forth into the far edges of the galaxy and dine! And May the 4th be with you.
