This fall, Rosie’s BBQ & Smokehouse and Strange Fellows Brewing are teaming up to put a southern spin on turkey weekend with a two-day Turkey Tailgate celebration on October 9th and October 10th to be held at Strange Fellows Brewing in East Vancouver.
On Saturday, October 9th Rosie’s will warm up the weekend by serving Turducken sandwiches and, on Sunday, October 10th, the Tailgate will climax with an all-day turkey fry where the BBQ experts will turn their hands to deep frying local turkeys to be taken home and enjoyed with friends and family.
Both Turducken and the tradition of deep-frying turkey date back to the 1970s and a boom in interest in Southern and Cajun cooking. More than a novelty, cooks realized that deep frying was the fastest way to prepare and deliver an irresistibly moist and delicious bird to the family dinner table and it’s become a signature dish for holidays and family get-togethers.
Rosie’s will be frying and selling full turkeys as a family meal to feed 6-8 people with a host of made from scratch sides like collard greens, smoked green beans, mac & cheese, stuffing, and mash. With a dozen locally made pumpkin tarts and four-pack of Strange Fellows Ludwig German Festbier included for $275, it’s a unique and delicious way to gather and celebrate.
The fried turkey dinners will be available exclusively by pre-order and, along with a pick-up time, a cooking time will be given so that customers can come down and watch their turkeys being cooked by the Rosie’s team.
In addition to the turkey dinners, Rosie’s BBQ & Smokehouse will also offer country smoked hams, whole beef briskets, and full Turducken roasts to take home and enjoy, along with a limited number of smoked turkey footlong sandwiches sized for two people to enjoy.
