Try These Richmond Restaurants During the Dine Out Vancouver Festival

Celebrate BC Cider Week April 29 – May 7, 2017

Not a beer fan and feel like you miss out on all the festival fun this summer? We get you. Or at least the organizers of the third annual BC Cider Week do. If you love the crisp, fresh tang of an icy cold cider one on a spring day, then this fest is just for you. The best place to view events and updates is the festival’s Facebook page, but one event we’ve bookmarked is Surrey’s Central City Brewers and Distillers tap-takeover at their Beatty Street location. Wednesday, May 3rd, the brewpub will be serving 12 different BC ciders on tap, including their own seasonal Hopping Mad Mosaic Hop Apple Cider. This particular cider is dry-hopped, using the tropical flavoured, mosaic hop that provides notes of mango and citrus. Admission is free. Drink tickets extra. Here’s to cider and spring sipping!

Locally made Amaro Uses Vancouver’s North Shore Ingredients

by Catherine Dunwoody Canada’s premier craft and micro-distillery festival, BC Distilled, showcased 27 BC-based artisan distilleries to nearly 500 fans of locally made gins, whiskies, liqueurs, vodkas and more this April. Clearly the show-stealer was The Woods Spirit Co.’s homegrown Amaro. If you’re the cocktail-culture type, or familiar with this Italian herbal liqueur because it’s been around for centuries (respect!) – you’ll likely be aware that Amaro in Italian means ‘bitter’ and brands like Aperol, Campari and Fernet-Branca are a few well-known names. Amari (that’s plural Amaro, folks) tend to be sipped straight up after dinner, soothing digestion with their balance of herbal, botanical, elixir-like properties. And in the land of classic cocktails? A Negroni would not be a Negroni, nor a Sprtiz a Spritz – without Amaro. Traditional French Canadian Food at the Festival du Bois

By Catherine Dunwoody Say oui! Western Canada’s largest francophone festival for 27 years is back for another fun weekend of all things French Canadian – right in Coquitlam, BC. From March 4 to 6, 2016, the Festival du Bois showcases our fabulous and proudly French traditions and culture in Canada by way of the real deal when it comes to food, traditional music, entertainment and fun activities. Taking place in Coquitlam’s Mackin Park the fest is definitely family-friendly and very affordable. Kick off the festival at Dîner en Plaid, with its traditional French Canadian cuisine, and rollicking music from a New Brunswick band. Plaid dress code in effect? Absolument!
