Show your plate a little pride! Metro Vancouver is full of excellent LGBTQ+ friendly eateries and snack spots that prioritize inclusivity while offering outstanding menus and specials. Seeing as we’re currently in Pride month, we thought it was the perfect time to spotlight a few of these area gems where everyone is welcome to feast at the same table (metaphorically speaking).
From cocktails to fresh baked goods, the rainbow seems to nourish culinary creativity just as much as it does diversity. Now let’s scour the closet for something fabulous, and hit the town for a cheeky bite!
Tall Shadow Bakery | Vancouver
Cultivating an, everyone is welcome philosophy, Tall Shadow Bakery began by showcasing their organic sourdough, artisanal loaves and pastries at community markets and local eateries. The enthusiastic reception prompted them to establish a bustling bakery and café in East Vancouver. Visitors can now enjoy sourdough pizza nights, delectable breakfast toasts adorned with toppings like avocado and ricotta, and lunch sandwiches featuring crispy smoked tofu and fresh seasonal vegetables. Don’t miss their renowned bagels and pretzels while exploring their offerings.

Mum’s The Word | Vancouver
Opened in 2022 on Commercial Drive and Charles Street in Vancouver’s vibrant Little Italy neighbourhood, Mum’s the Word is equal parts cozy café, cocktail bar and community hub where coffee, cocktails and culture come together in an eclectic and laidback spot with vibes to spare. The friendly crew are well versed with quenching thirsts thanks to a cocktail list that proudly supports local ingredients and purveyors, plus a killer craft beer and wine menu full of gems from across BC’s backyard.

Gina’s — Vancouver
Located in the heart of Chinatown, this “for queers, by queers” spot has a fun and flirty attitude that welcomes all persuasions, despite having that cheeky business statement. Serving up (mostly) plant-based Mexican food and cocktails, Gina’s hosts a calendar of inclusive events like “creative project night” where artists can meet up and work on their craft, as well as special nights for practicing languages (English, French and Spanish). There’s usually something interesting going on, so stop by for a snack and see who you bump into!

Spent Grounds — Surrey
Home to a menu full of gluten-free treats for our celiac brothers and sisters, this inviting spot is always a reliable option for catching up with an old friend or making new ones. Their bakery menu, which changes regularly, features exquisite gluten-free and vegan versions of beloved classics such as lemon poppyseed loaf, cinnamon buns, and pop tarts. Find a spot at the communal table, join the spacious bar area, or drop by with the little ones and hit the kid-friendly ‘chill-out lounge’. There’s room for everyone!

Oldhand Coffee — Langley City
Stylish and full of natural light, Oldhand has an old soul with plenty of modern comforts. Located just off Mcburney Plaza at the centre of Langley City, their cozy window seats offer the perfect view of the community gatherings that happen under the canopy of suspended rainbow umbrellas outside. This location just opened, so you’re sure to be among the first customers to take a selfie with their velvety lattes and homemade baked goods.

Bar Sodalite — Various Locations
