Mark your calendars… Family Day is this February 17! If you’re looking to head out for the day with little ones in tow, then it’s always good to know of a few spots where, you know, they’ll actually eat. So, to mark the occasion, we’ve assembled a list of family-friendly local spots that kids and adults will love equally. Who knows, you might actually sneak off to visit again while they’re in school—good chicken strips do hit extra hard this time of year. When you pile into the family wagon and the cries of “I’m hungry!” echo from the back seat, you’ll be well prepared to throw out some reliable suggestions. Happy Family Day!
Anton’s Pasta Bar – 4260 Hastings St, Burnaby
Anton’s is a pasta institution in Greater Vancouver, and for good reason! Their generous portions and reasonable prices make it an excellent option for families to dine, and every dish packs a big punch of flavour. Whether the kids are craving spaghetti and meatballs or just plain pasta with butter, Anton’s will leave you all feeling satisfied and, in all likelihood, with a little extra to take home for further feasting.

Omni Kitchen + Bar – 9044 Glover Rd. Fort Langley
Omni is a great spot to visit if your family has a variety of dietary restrictions. Whether you’re looking for dairy-free, gluten-free, or plant-based options, the menu is full of comfort food favourites that everyone can enjoy. The kids will adore an order of mini-mac made with house-made cheese and served with fries. Stop by for lunch, dinner or brunch!

The Golden Boot  – 1028 Ridgeway Avenue, Coquitlam
Located on the corner of Ridgeway and Nelson, The Golden Boot has been proudly serving Northern Italian cuisine in Coquitlam since 1997.
The homemade dishes will impress even the littlest of foodies with a delicious selection of pasta, pizza and, of course, dessert (the house-made gelato is a consistent crowd-pleaser).

Spud Shack – 352-800 Carnarvon Street, New Westminster
Who doesn’t love a good order of fries? Spud Shack is a must-visit if you’re craving crispy savoury goodness! The New West chip spot is well known for its poutine and burgers, and with good reason—that’s mainly all they serve! Focusing on a small number of menu items allows them to perfect the recipes and really give your taste buds something to sing about. A great take-out option if it’s getting late and your group is getting hangry!

Toku Japanese Restaurant – 5300 Number 3 Road #221, Richmond
If your clan is a little more worldly and enjoys Eastern cuisine, then keep Toku at the top of your list. With a huge menu of fresh sushi, tempura, and noodle soup, you’ll have no trouble finding something for everybody in your party. Kids will enjoy the tasty and colourful offerings created just for them, served on fun plateware. It’s definitely one to try if you’re thinking of broadening their horizons a bit!

Afghan Kitchen – 115-16120 24 Avenue, Surrey
A family restaurant in more ways than one, Afghan Kitchen began with the hopes of sharing “mum’s recipes” with the world. Since starting that dream in 2017, the restaurant has become such an area favourite for family outings that they’ve even opened a second location in Vancouver. The curries and kebabs offer delicious options for sharing with the table, “family style.” They even have “Afghan Nuggets,” crispy golden chicken bites served with chutney and yogurt. Be sure to end the meal with “Mum’s Secret Cake,” although it’s no secret that it’s absolutely scrumptious.

The Flying Pig – 1168 Hamilton Street, Yaletown, Vancouver
A bit more of an upscale option if your kids are a little older, this Yaletown spot serves up comfort food with a side of chill vibes. The warm ambience will come off as far cooler than what they might think of as a “family spot.” and they’ll love digging into modern, mature takes on their old faves like truffle mac and cheese, jumbo onion rings with blue cheese dip, and bone marrow cheezy bread.

Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company – 4186 Main St, Vancouver
If you live in Vancouver and have kids, you might already know about this Mount Pleasant gem, but if you’re driving in from another community, get ready for one of the area’s family favourites! A farm-to-table flatbread pizza restaurant, Rocky Mountain is dedicated to using the best local and organic ingredients for its flavourful menu. Kids will love their tasty list of customizable dishes, and the kitchen is happy to cater to gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian diets. They even book kids’ parties where everyone can roll out their own dough and decorate with toppings!

The Tomahawk Restaurant – 1550 Philip Ave, North Vancouver
Opened in 1926, this is Canada’s oldest family-run restaurant! Serving up classic Canadian comfort food, you’ll quickly see why Tomahawk’s legacy continues to delight new generations. Ready to host your family for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, each robust menu is choc full of delicious favourites.

Emilio Finatti Pizzaria – 15223 Pacific Ave #5, White Rock
This award-winning pizza spot is consistently considered one of the area’s top places for piping hot pies. Only open for takeout, it’s easy to miss the little unassuming storefront, but once you try their outstanding pizzas, it will forever be on your marked locations. Their menu has everything from reliable favourites like Formaggio to options with a bit more flair, like curry chicken or pierogi with sour cream.

C-Lovers Fish & Chips – 20251 Fraser Hwy., Langley City
Home to all-you-can-eat fish and chips (and bottomless pop), C-Lovers is well known for its family service. The crisp and flaky batter of their cod halibut and salmon pieces is the cure for any chilly day. Nobody has ever left C-Lovers hungry, and that goes for the pickiest of eaters too!
