The pandemic has many online workers a little Zoom fatigued, and co-working spaces aren’t as bustling as they once were pre-COVID. Luckily, for those who are used to the digital nomad life or who just miss seeing other folks “around the office,” there are a few spots in New Westminster where one can flip open a laptop and treat themselves to better-than-homebrewed beverages. Check out our favourites here.
Old Crow Coffee Co.
Art and industrial aesthetics meet at this Front Street café, where you’ll find rotating art from new artists hanging on the walls on a regular basis amid tables made from pipes. This spot caters to vegetarians and vegans alike, offering up fresh-made sandwiches, pastries, and occasionally, a delivery from Plates By Payts which serves plant-based sourdough doughnuts. Find a spot to get to work at one of the many tables available, including couch space to lounge in the backroom.

The Hive
The Hive, otherwise known as Hive City, has a coffee shop a few doors down from Old Crow on Front Street. The space is welcoming, clean, and modern, with a few small tables to flip open a laptop at. While you’re there, try one of their seasonal special drinks, plus a selection of locally sourced baked goods and pastries.

Waves (Downtown New West)
Situated on the corner of Begbie and Columbia, Waves Coffee offers ample space and guaranteed good coffee. This spot boasts tons of seating, which is great for remote working when you also want a reliably good latte and a signature snack, wrap, or sandwich.

Bruncheria / Donuteria
Name another place you can get donuts baked fresh daily that also offers an outstanding brunch menu? This culinary mash-up is not only one of our New West’s favourite spots to spend a cheat day, but it’s also great for knocking out a workday as well. Just don’t park for too long, you don’t want to upset any of their rabid donut fans who are prowling for a table.

Get here on transit: Walk across the street from Columbia Station, and voila! You’re there.
Craft Café
You’ll be lucky to find seating in this small but popular joint, now sitting where Angelina’s Dutch Kitchen used to be. The coffee and the atmosphere scream artisan, with espresso drinks made with single-origin beans roasted by The Barn in Berlin and organic milk from Avalon Dairy. Our advice? Find a cozy corner and don’t give it up.
960 Quayside Dr Unit 115
Get here on transit: Walk over the overpass towards the Quay coming out of New Westminster Station, and find this corner café across from the River Market.
Hideout Café
If you’re looking for organic coffee, freshly-made wraps, or hand-prepared yogurt and berries in a quiet place, then find solace at the Hide Out Cafe. Located a block down from Douglas College, this is a great spot to recharge between classes or get some work finished before hitting the Skytrain back home.
