Krause Berry Farms Celebrates 50 Years Of Fresh Farming With Waffles, Wine, And A Cookbook - West Coast Food

Where can you go to get a delectable hot waffle, enjoy a wine tasting with a glass (or a bottle) of berry wine, while picking fresh fruit from the vine all at once? If you’re a Fraser Valley local, you’ll know it’s all at Langley’s Krause Berry Farms—located off of 248th Street in the heart of Langley Township.

Since its inception in 1974, the family-run farm has come a long way—now playing host to a fulsome farm, vineyard, estate winery, a hot waffle bar, a marketplace selling fresh produce grown on site, and family-friendly seasonal u-pick fields.

But back to the beginning. It all started with Alf Krause planting one acre of strawberries in 1974. Today, the farm is still owned and operated by Alf and his wife Sandee, and expanded to more than 200 acres of growing produce—yielding some of the Fraser Valley’s best berries.

Indeed, fresh berries and vegetables abound at the ethically and sustainably family-run farm, with Sandee’s prowess for baking and cooking helping to develop an delectable menu of farm-style, handmade eats at the farm’s market and bakery.

Fifty years on, Alf and Sandee’s mission is “to grow the best quality food, and encourage guests to participate in their food experience. We strive to do this by integrating new growing techniques with traditional methods, to use the whole green farming approach, along with implementing IPM (integrated pest management) on our berry farm.”

The latest from the Krause family is the Krause Berry Farms Cookbook by Sandee, which has been on their marketplace shelves since April 30. Included in the 50th anniversary cookbook are recipes for their famed Berry Milkshakes, Fresh Cut Strawberry Salsa, Pierogies (sweet & savoury), and Upside Down Cake—all of which you can also find in the market.

And, of course, fresh fruit lovers can’t go without baking them into a pie—and with Sandee’s help you’ll be able to make your own Strawberry Custard Pie, Apple Pie, and Pecan and Blueberry Butter Tarts.

In celebration of their gold anniversary, Krause Berry Farms is also giving random guests a complimentary waffle and another two guests will receive a complimentary bottle of wine every Saturday.

“Before the year’s end, we will have given away 50 waffles and 50 bottles of wine!” they say.

That’s certainly one way to get us to the farm this weekend!

Visit Krause Berry Farms at 6179 248 Street, Langley Township.
